Addiction Detox

The term “detoxification” refers to removing poisons, usually from one’s body. In the case of substance abuse and addiction, detoxification is a medically supervised process during which alcohol or other drugs pass from a person’s system.

Because the body can become dependent upon certain substances, attempting to quit some types of drugs “cold turkey” can range from difficult to deadly. Medically monitored detox allows a person to be weaned from the drug(s) he or she had been abusing in a safe and relatively painless way.

Detoxification does not mean that a person is no longer addicted to the substance that he or she has been abusing; however, undergoing a safe and successful medically monitored detoxification process can be an important first step in the effort to free oneself from alcoholism and other forms of drug addiction.

The medically monitored detoxification program at New Life Lodge provides 24/7 medical and nursing supervision to help the patient withdraw from alcohol and/or drugs in an expeditious and safe manner. The length of stay in the Detoxification Program is variable and highly individualized.

The Medical Director is a physician who follows the New Lodge Life criteria for admission into this program. The physician focuses on the absence of withdrawal symptomatology, stability of vital signs, and the concomitant education of the patient.

Patients in this program are strongly encouraged to attend therapeutic and group activities, getting the most out of their treatment stay while minimizing isolation.

The treatment team is cognizant of the multitude of somatic concerns often expressed by the patient in detoxification but also recognizes the importance of therapeutic interaction in combating distorted thinking often seen in this population.

The substances listed below are a partial list of substances for which New Life Lodge provides medically monitored detoxification.
